When is the best time of year to see tulips in Amsterdam?

Holland’s tulip season starts much earlier than one might expect – on National Tulip Day in January when growers display their blooms and other flowers on Dam Square (the main piazza).

Visiting a working tulip farm is another excellent way to experience true tulipomania. In Amsterdam, several farms are open during tulip season for visitors: Tulip Farm De Tulperij and Annemieke’s Picking Garden in Voorhout.

Keukenhof Gardens are a must-visit for anyone visiting Amsterdam during the spring season. Easily reached from either Amsterdam or Schiphol Airport, guided tours are often offered to this idyllic site.

The Flower Bulb Region near Lisse is famed for its stunning tulip fields and world-renowned Keukenhof gardens. Many tour companies offer guided bike and walking tours from here.
